Abstract photographs of walls from the historic Pink City of Jaipur; each one seemingly narrating its own story.
To exist is to change, to change is to mature, to mature is to go on creating oneself endlessly. — Henri Bergson
The historic walled city of Jaipur (Rajasthan, India), also known as the Pink City, was founded centuries ago, in 1727. One of the oldest planned cities in India, its main roads or bazaars have been maintained over the years and retain quite a bit of their original character. In some of its narrow lanes or rastas, change is more evident: weathering, decay, repair, even advertising, have left their marks, particularly on the walls.
During walks in the walled city in 2007 and 2010, Mayank observed that many of the walls have undergone their own unique experiences or changes over the years. They seemed to be quietly, and beautifully, narrating their stories — which this series of fine art photographs attempts to depict. The walls have been showcased as pieces of art in their own right and the story of each one is left to the viewers’ interpretation.
Pink City: Stories on Walls consists of 25 unique images, available as limited edition digital prints on archival quality paper (Edition: 15). Print sizes: 20×15 or 16×12 inches.
