Black and white photographs of shapes and patterns of light falling from windows, in and around Mayank’s room.
The light came through the window, straight from the sun above. And so inside my little room, there plunged the rays of love. — Leonard Cohen
A speck of sunlight coming in through the window of Mayank’s room caught his attention on a winter morning (in 2010). He got intrigued by its interesting, abstract shape, and spent the next few hours and the next morning exploring and photographing the transient shapes and patterns that angular morning light made at different places in and around his room.
The thought of photographing ‘light’ seemed to be a very simple or basic idea so to keep the whole exercise simple, a pocket digital compact camera (Panasonic Lumix LZ10) was used for the shoot. Colour wasn’t playing a significant part in the images so they were converted to black and white during post-processing.
It turned out to be one of the most enjoyable photo shoots that Mayank indulged in and one he could do in his pajamas! The name of this series was inspired by lyrics of the song Love Itself by the late singer and songwriter Leonard Cohen. These photographs are available as affordable digital prints on archival fine art paper. Print sizes: 22 × 16 inches or 16 × 12 inches.
