Abstract photographs of nightly reflections on bodies of cars, stylistically resembling the art movement Futurism.
While walking at a New Delhi marketplace one night in 2007, Mayank’s eye was drawn to reflections on the body of a parked car. Upon photographing them, he found the resulting image fascinating. The car’s smooth, shiny and streamlined surfaces had rendered the surrounding environment in an abstract manner, creating an alternate, futuristic looking world. The next few hours were spent exploring and shooting more reflections — of nearby shops, signages, lights and passerbys — on bodies, glass and headlights of cars parked nearby. He returned after a few days for more images, to complete a series of photographs.
Stylistically, the images resemble artworks from the famous early 20th century art movement Futurism, wherein modernity was glorified and dynamism, speed, energy, even motorcars, were visually emphasised.
This series consists of 15 fine art photographs available as limited edition digital prints on archival quality paper or canvas (Edition: 12). Print sizes: 22 × 16 or 16 × 12 inches.
