Abstract photographs of rainwater juxtaposed with architectural elements, taken one night at a shopping mall in New Delhi.
A fifteen minute grocery shopping session at a shopping mall in New Delhi (India) turned into a three hour long wait for me, owing to a sudden, heavy downpour. It rained very hard and continuously that night (on July 27, 2009). After some forced window shopping and a coffee, I got attracted to the sight of rainwater flowing down on large glass windows. Fortunately, I happened to be carrying a compact digital camera (a Canon PowerShot SX110 IS) and started shooting. The next couple of hours passed easily, thanks to an enjoyable photo session, wherein I explored several parts of the mall.
Textures and patterns made by rainwater and water droplets, juxtaposed with reflections on window glasses, shadows and modern architectural elements, created abstract sights — which I tried to capture with the camera. Interior and exterior lights of the mall added a sense of drama to the images. The photographs, showcased in this gallery, are also available as affordable prints on archival fine art papers. Print sizes: 22 x 16 inches or 16 x 12 inches.
